"Community, Trust, and Judgment: A Conversation on Leadership in Higher Education" A lecture by Bronté Burleigh-Jones - CFO, Vice President and Treasurer, American University Dr. Bronté Burleigh-Jones joins us for a conversation on leadership and higher education. Drawing on decades of experience in higher education leadership, including her tenure at St. John's College, Annapolis, Dr. Burleigh-Jones will explore with us some of the most pressing challenges of the moment - navigating covid, the demographics and economics of higher education, technological disruption, and cultural and political polarization. We will also discuss enduring educational values and aims including liberal education, public service, advancing diversity and social mobility, accessibility and affordability, and courage, integrity; and transparency in leadership. Dr. Burleigh-jones is recognized for devoting her time and voice to mentoring and to service, and she will help us reflect on how we can learn from one another and help others benefit from our experience, especially in times of challenge or crisis. The conversation will open up to audience questions and comments. Please join us! Bronté Burleigh-Jones is the CFO, Vice President, and Treasurer at American University. Burleigh-Jones is a frequent presenter on a variety of topics, including finance, accreditation, communication, leadership and diversity at the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), American Council of Education (ACE), and Association of Governing Boards (AGB) conferences. Burleigh-Jones has more than 30 years of experience in financial and facilities management in higher education. She previously served as the vice president for finance and administration at Dickinson College where she oversaw all areas of finance and campus operations. Before joining Dickinson in 2013, she served as treasurer of St. John's College, and vice president for administration and finance and dean of enrollment management at Huston-Tillotson University, Burleigh-Jones is the immediate past board chair and former treasurer for the Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Institute for Women in Higher Education and a former Middle States Accreditation Commissioner. She holds a bachelor's degree in finance and an MBA from American University and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Texas, Austin.
