Small ruminant ultrasound is a growing field of interest for many rural mixed veterinary practices. Small ruminants can add to a rural mixed practice in several ways: grow the client base, add services to existing clients, increase revenue in different seasons and provide an opportunity to learn something new! Similar to many aspects of veterinary ultrasound, the practitioner can offer basic services such as pregnancy testing to start. Once the veterinarian has gain some experience with small ruminant ultrasound, other ultrasound examinations such as fetal aging, detection of multiple fetuses and thoracic examinations can be added to the list of services provided.
