7.5 hp Mercury - CDI Repaired - I Saved $250 and Regained Spark ⚡️
This little 7.5 hp Mercury was priced right for what the owner thought was a fuel issue. Once I diagnosed a partial weak to eventually “no spark” condition it became clear the problem was corroded wires inside the CDI. In fact they were so corroded one of the wires broke off while pulling the starter rope. So I decided to do surgery on the CDI with a razor blade. I was able to remove the corroded leads and solder in new wires into the CDI that lead from the Trigger and Stator to regain spark in both cylinders. This saved me $250 for the price of a new CDI. Finally, I used Permartex(R) Black Plastic Welder epoxy to seal it up using a plastic patch to cover the affected area.
