A visit with the wonderful Ken Schrader

One of the real highlights for me this year was getting a tour of Ken Schrader‘s race shop in Missouri by the man himself. Wayne Rowett, Lauren Nelson and myself stopped by Ken‘s house (as you do lol) to show him video footage of Tolmer Speedway so he could get a sense of the basically identical Version of his beloved I55 Raceway in Pevely created in South Australia. Ken was so kind to us and is such a hilarious character. He was clearly very impressed and very proud that I 55 raceway had been re-created with such authenticity in Australia. It was quite incredible when we realized it was 36 years to the day that Rich Vogler had been tragically killed at Salem Indiana. Ken keeps incredible records of his racing career and quickly found the qualifying sheets from Vogels performance at Pocono Raceway the day before he tragically lost his life at Salem. It was a fantastic experience spending some time with Ken. No wonder he is such a beloved figure in American auto racing. He does say in this interview by the way that he would happily drive a late model at Tolmer should the opportunity arise. We need to make that happen!
