In the 1470s, Burgundy and the former Confederates clashed in a series of armed conflicts. The reasons for this conflict were expansionist intentions on both sides and major political implications. During this conflict, known as the "Burgundian Wars," three major battles took place. On March 2, 1476, Charles the Bold confronted the Confederates at Grandson. Although he lost only a few men, he was forced to abandon his entire camp. Charles's second defeat, suffered only a few months later on June 22 at Murten, was disastrous, with almost the entire Burgundian army annihilated. On January 5, 1577, the last and final Battle of Nancy took place. This video is the fourth installment in our series on the Burgundian Wars and explains how current research reconstructs the Battle of Nancy.
