Remembering Ruth First
This August marks the anniversary of the passing of Ruth First who was assassinated on 17 August 1982. In this special tribute we honour her life and legacy as a fearless journalist activist and advocate for justice. Her former colleague and friend Helena Dolny joins us in an intimate interview recounting the day Ruth was killed and sharing memories of her courage conviction and enduring impact on South African history. As part of this remembrance Helena has donated to the Nelson Mandela Foundation a powerful photograph of Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu still bearing the bullet holes from the room where Ruth First was tragically killed a haunting reminder of the struggle for freedom and the sacrifices made along the way. Join us in reflecting on Ruth First’s extraordinary life and the values she fought for.
