We’re exploring a medieval watchtower in the middle of farm fields in Hessen, outside of Schaafheim, Germany. Why would people in the Middle Ages build a structure outside of the walled town? We are conducting an on-site investigation to find out. We also visit Schaafheim to see what hidden gems are found in this quiet farming village on the Bavarian border. This town is rich with preserved history, featuring a 500-year-old chapel, half-timbered (Fachwerkhaus) houses galore, and medieval wall remnants.
