The Official Channel of Sudan National Television Sudan Television was established in 1962, at the forefront of broadcasting stations in the Arab and African region. This initiative was spearheaded by the Minister of Information at the time (Minister of Information and Labor, Major General Mohamed Talaat Farid). Test broadcasts began on the roof of the National Theatre Hotel in Omdurman on December 23, 1962. Mr. Ali Mohamed Shamu, Deputy Director of Radio, was appointed to head a committee tasked with cooperating with Thomson TV. The television station was officially established, and its first Director General was appointed. The test broadcasts began with a small, low-power (100-watt) set-top box. Receivers were distributed in public squares across various areas of Khartoum (the capital), where the broadcast was initially limited. A studio and administrative headquarters were set up in the National Theatre Hotel (its current location). The official opening ceremony took place on November 17, 1963, after the Thomson contract expired and the Federal Republic of Germany took over, having volunteered to establish Sudan Television.
