From there, we follow Hornsgatan (Horn Street) — one of the oldest and longest streets on Södermalm, rich in local life. We turn onto Torkel Knutssonsgatan (Torkel Knutsson Street), named after a powerful medieval statesman, and continue down to the waterfront at Söder Mälarstrand (Southern Mälaren Shore) — a scenic promenade lined with houseboats and views of Lake Mälaren. Crossing Södra Järnvägsbron (Southern Railway Bridge), we reach Munkbrohamnen (Monk’s Bridge Quay), a peaceful quay in Gamla stan with views over the water and City Hall. We walk through the passage by Tunnelbanestation Gamla stan (Gamla stan Metro Station) and arrive at Mälartorget (Mälaren Square) — a peaceful square just a short walk from the water. We then pass Kornhamnstorg (Grain Harbor Square), once a hub for grain trade, and take a look at Strömmingsvagnen (The Herring Cart) — a beloved Stockholm street food stand serving fried Baltic herring. Next, we wander through Funckens gränd (Funck’s Alley), a narrow cobblestone lane named after a 17th-century merchant, and arrive at Västerlånggatan (West Long Street) — a busy historic street full of shops and old architecture.
