Description Kaneko Misuzu: A 26-Year-Old's Prayer and a 50-Year Miracle Born in 1903 in Senzaki Village, Otsu County, Yamaguchi Prefecture (now Nagato City), Kaneko Misuzu (real name: Kaneko Teru) loved reading from an early age and excelled in school. She began writing poetry at age 20, and her work was published in every magazine she submitted to, demonstrating such talent that she was hailed as a "young, giant children's song poet." However, in stark contrast to the beautiful world of her poetry, her life was filled with hardship and tragedy. Married at age 23, her husband had no appreciation for literature and forbade her from engaging in creative activities. Furthermore, as she grew increasingly weak both physically and mentally due to illness, a battle over custody of her beloved daughter overwhelmed her. In 1930, at the young age of 26, she took her own life. After her death, her name was long forgotten, but 50 years later, it has miraculously resurrected. In the 1980s, poet Setsuo Yazaki was so impressed by her poem "Big Catch" that he spent 16 years tracking down her family. He discovered three volumes of her posthumous manuscripts, which had been carefully preserved by her younger brother, Masasuke, and resurrected 512 of her poems. Kaneko Misuzu's poetry is filled with a warm gaze that is equally focused on all things and deep compassion, as symbolized by the words, "Everyone is different, everyone is good."
