Devil May Cry Season 2 Is Better Than Fans Admit

Netflix’s Devil May Cry Season 2 has been getting a lot of criticism from DMC fans — but is the hate actually fair? In this video, I review Devil May Cry Season 2 on Netflix and defend why I think the series understands the emotional core of Devil May Cry better than fans give it credit for. I talk about Netflix Dante, Vergil’s role in Season 2, Lady’s expanded focus, DARKCOM, Arius and Argosax from Devil May Cry 2, Mundus, Sparda, Eva, Makai, and why this adaptation should be judged as a remix rather than a direct retelling. To be clear, I don’t think Season 2 is perfect. Dante can feel too passive, Lucan and Mattie don’t fully work for me, and the story can feel overstuffed. But I also think there’s a difference between saying “this show has flaws” and saying “this show doesn’t understand Devil May Cry.” I also compare Netflix’s Devil May Cry to other video game adaptations like the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies, which don’t follow the games beat-for-beat but still work because they capture the spirit of the source material.
