Hangsan Choi Gyeong-su, Reverend (Yeongsan Office) The phrase I encountered when I first entered Yeongsan was “Let us receive the soul of the Saint.” Next to it stood the phrase, “What have I come here to do?” And the words of the Seven Patriarchs of the Way, who dedicated their lives to the service: “If you replace the pleasures of wealth, beauty, fame, and fortune throughout your life with this study and this work, the blessings of eternal life are indescribable.” From that day on, the life I began to live with a new direction has been realized to this day. Am I a master? Or a worker? A true master is someone who manages everything, starting from the places unseen by others, while a traveler—that is, a worker—only works in the visible places. One of these leads to a reflection on one's vows. Every day, with my hands clasped and a firm vow to the Truth, I live with a heart that constantly compares and contrasts the pledge and vow to fully absorb the spirit of the Great Master and to become the protagonist of the Order, which was established through the great devotion and blood-sacrifice of the Nine Former Masters. We must reflect on our purpose. Reflecting on one's purpose means learning and discovering things one by one in this way, without losing sight of that initial vow and pledge. Next is the reflection of the light. Thinking about it, despite having lived in Yeongsan for so long, I have accomplished nothing of my own. If I consider preserving the work established by the Great Master and the Former Masters exactly as it is to be the greatest task, and look back, it becomes a life without regret.
