JAKARTA, KOMPAS TV – Hibnu Nugroho, a criminal law expert from Jenderal Soedirman University, believes that the resignation of Hotman Paris Hutapea as attorney for former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, will not hinder the legal process. According to him, the most important thing is the suspect's right to remain represented by an attorney at every stage of the examination. "An attorney has the right to accompany him from the beginning of the investigation, through the prosecution, and even during the trial. This is especially true for a suspect," Hibnu said on the Sapa Indonesia Pagi program, Friday (July 24, 2026). He cited at least four indicators: the opportunity to be heard (public hearing), evidence, independence, and balance in legal aid. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Prosecutorial Commission Commissioner, Nurokhman, stated that his office respects Hotman Paris' decision and emphasized that there are many other advocates who can represent Febrie. He also confirmed that the Prosecutorial Commission will directly monitor the investigation process conducted by investigators from the Attorney General's Office. "Today, we plan to directly monitor the progress of the examination of witnesses and suspects, which will be held today at the Attorney General's Office," said Nurokhman. (Timecode 6:58) Regarding Febrie's absence from the previous examination, Nurokhman stated that it was due to health reasons. He hopes Febrie will comply with investigators' summons for the next examination. "We hope he will prioritize the interests of the prosecutor's office so that public trust can be maintained and, of course, this case can be resolved thoroughly," he said. "If the situation allows for cooperation at all times when summoned, there's no worry about destroying evidence, that's not necessary. But if not, that could be grounds for detention," he explained. Meanwhile, Nurokhman assessed that investigators' main focus right now is gathering evidence before taking the detainee action. "Don't be hasty.
