Can Ribs Actually Slip? Explaining Slipping Rib Syndrome | Aleks Physio

🤔 Understanding Slipped Rib Syndrome: Anatomy, Diagnosis, and More! 🩺 👁️‍🗨️ What is Slipped Rib Syndrome? Slipped Rib Syndrome is a rare but often painful condition that occurs when one or more of the intercostal nerves becomes irritated as a result of injury to the costal cartilage of the (primarily) false ribs 8-10. This can be as a result of trauma, repetitive movements, hyper mobility or spontaneously. 🧐 Anatomy 101: Your ribcage is an intricate structure of 12 pairs of ribs that protect vital organs like the heart and lungs. There are 7 pairs of true ribs which attach directly to the sternum, 3 pairs of false ribs which attach to the costal cartilage superiorly and 2 floating ribs which have no attachment. 🔍 Diagnosing the Slip: Diagnosing involves a positive hooking maneuver test, positive diagnostic nerve block and a positive diagnostic ultrasound. 👩‍⚕️ Seek Medical Guidance: Remember, if you have had an injury to this region or are experiencing persistent rib pain, consult with a healthcare provider. Early diagnosis and proper treatment can help you find relief and prevent further complications. Have you ever been diagnosed with slipping rib syndrome? Let me know in the comments below.
