The long-established shops that spend the day selling dried goods, Chinese herbs, and textiles gradually close their doors, while century-old brick buildings glow beneath rows of lanterns. Once the commercial heart of Taipei, Dadaocheng still preserves the historic character of the old city through its arcade buildings, traditional shopfronts, and well-preserved streetscape. Walking east, the atmosphere begins to change. The quiet heritage district gradually gives way to a livelier nighttime scene. Scooters weave through the streets, the aroma of street food fills the air, and the energy of the city steadily builds. Turning onto Ningxia Road, Ningxia Night Market is coming to life. Within just a few hundred meters, some of Taipei’s best-known local specialties draw long lines—from oyster omelets and taro balls to chicken rice and grilled mochi. This walk from historic Dadaocheng to Ningxia Night Market is more than a change of scenery.
