In this video, we're going to resolve a situation you may have encountered before: a 230V three-phase installation with a peculiar neutral that gives us a reading of 137V. 🤔 If you've been in a similar situation and have been unsure how to proceed, this video is for you. We're going to apply the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (LEER) and learn how to measure line impedance correctly and professionally. 📊⚡️ First, we'll review the phase distribution: RS and T (colors are no longer enforced by regulation 😮). To measure the phase sequence, we use the Multicheck 6010, which we also include in our regulatory electrical measurement courses. As you know, impedance is not a simple resistance, but includes resistive, capacitive, and inductive components. 🤖 The difference between impedance and resistance is essential for a safe and efficient installation. 🛡️ Line Impedance Measurement and Compliance with the REBT (Regulatory Regulations) In the line impedance measurement we perform in the video, we are verifying that the 63A type C protection complies with low voltage regulations, as detailed in the REBT (Regulatory Regulations). Remember that for type C, the potential short-circuit current must be at least 10 times greater than the nominal current. This calculation is essential to ensure that the system is capable of responding in the appropriate time, generally within 0.2 seconds, to ensure the safety of the installation. 🚀🏴 In the video, I also explain a "trick" to perform the test correctly: we connect the neutral conductor to ground to stabilize the reading at 6V and thus trick the equipment a little 🥵. This allows us to perform the measurement without the equipment rejecting the test due to ground voltage. Important: line impedance is essential to verify whether fuses, circuit breakers, and protections are sized correctly. 🎯🔨 🌐 Line Impedance vs. Ground Loop: Everything Under Control 🔬 We also perform a loop fault measurement in the TT system. Remember: the loop is different from the line impedance, and the loop impedance value is what lets us know whether or not the installed residual current protection meets the requirements of the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (REBT). ⚡️✅ Beyond the theory, all these tests are a fundamental part of my daily work as a 2.0 technician.
