We Can Only Die in Love

The Sufis speak of union with God, or the idea of love that consumes the self. What would the equivalent of that be in non-duality? Rupert says: ‘It would be what we do here in the mornings [at this retreat], where we abide as pure being. You take the thought ‘I am’, and you allow yourself to be drawn into its referent. And as you sink into it, your being is divested of all the qualities that it inherits from the content of experience. ‘Pure being, before it is qualified by experience, is infinite being. And infinite being is God’s being. The ultimate devotion and the ultimate surrender is just to stand as being – because there is no individual being left to surrender.
