Just imagine it playin :'( ** In the late 90s I was living in Lewisham with my friends Martin and James... Martin (who I used to DJ alongside) had turned away from the DnB we had been playing to jump onto this new Garage sound. I was baffled, and used to give him all sorts of grief for switching up (I'm a real mug when I want to be...). Then, we all went to Telepathy in Stratford and I saw EZ play - he started the set by cutting up one of his infamous EZ dubplates and it was undeniable - he was one of the best DJs I'd ever seen, and this was a serious sound. By the time I heard Melody by Masterstepz (which I still never got a copy of!) and Stone Cold by Groove Chronicle I was converted. So big up Martin, turns out you were right all along. I've tried to take in a few different garage vibes here, from the housey stuff, through to the rowdiest speed garage, and then out to the sleeker, deeper two step.
