The lecture will begin with an introduction to surface crystallography, a description of the method of preparation of single crystal electrodes and well-defined electrode surfaces and a description of their electrochemical response. Then, the interphase between platinum and an electrolyte solution will be described emphasizing the importance of parameters such as charge separation, electric field and orientation of solvent molecules. Finally, the influence of all these parameters on electrochemical reactivity will be discussed.
