The Chieftains play live on the opening night of a second television channel for Ireland, RTÉ 2. The Chieftains are introduced by Terry Wogan at the RTÉ 2 gala opening ceremony at Cork Opera House. Introducing The Chieftains, he says, They’ve backed people like Paul McCartney and Wings. They’ve played in every major hall worth a name and wherever you go in the world, you’ll hear the applause ringing out for The Chieftains. The Chieftains perform Seán sa Cheo to rapturous applause. RTÉ 2 Opening Night was broadcast on 2 November 1978.
