The Secrets Of Southern Utah's Slot Canyons: Ancient Petroglyphs

Shadow and I venture deep into the desert of Southern Utah and explore slot canyons in pursuit of petroglyphs. After exploring several slot canyons to no avail, we landed upon the mother load! We found a deep, long, mysterious slot canyon that was filled with ancient Anasazi Petroglyphs. The Anasazi Native American People are believed to have lived from 200 AD to 1300 AD. Their disappearance remains a mystery to this day. However, they left behind signs and traces of their once rich and colorful culture. They carved petroglyphs into canyon walls on what is known as desert varnish. These petroglyphs included images of animals, people, birds, cultural symbols, hands with different numbers of fingers, and a myriad of other carvings. Some of the petroglyphs even seem to be depicting alien life forms. Unfortunately, we no longer possess the knowledge to read and understand them. Finding these slot canyons and petroglyphs was not easy. We had to endure many hours of hiking in the hot desert. We were chased off by ravens that were protecting their nest. But we succeeded not only in finding petroglyphs, but in observing a number of unusual mysteries of nature: strange sand circles; twisted trees surviving deep within the slot canyon, petrified sand dunes, and even insects. Shadow and I love to go on these adventures of exploration, whether they be to the desert in search of petroglyphs, to the mountains rockhounding, or peering deep into the cosmos. Our world, our solar system, our galaxy, and even our universe are waiting for us to explore! We hope you come along with us on this and the many Adventures of Shadow.
