I visited the important ancient city of Amathus near Limassol. The site comprises four different but nearby areas: the acropolis at the top of the hill, which is the origin of the settlement; the prince's palace halfway up the hill; the lower town near the coast; and the necropolis with many hypogeum tombs, some with astonishing features I'd never seen before. I filmed many more tombs in the necropolis, but I decided to show only the most interesting ones to avoid making the video too long. I found the necropolis truly magnificent. Amathus is one of the most important sites on the island of Cyprus, with a rich history, especially under Phoenician influence and during Persian rule when it became the island's capital. Amathus remained important under the Roman and Byzantine empires until the end of the 12th century when it was destroyed by Louis the Lionheart.
