Speaking at the Kultaranta Talks in Finland, Jaishankar pointed out a striking imbalance in global scrutiny: while India is often questioned for its defence partnerships, European weapons have for decades been part of Pakistan’s military arsenal. He highlighted that no European country has ever been attacked with Indian-origin weapons, yet European-origin systems have repeatedly been used in conflicts involving India. His remarks reopen a sensitive discussion on global arms trade accountability and the long-term impact of Cold War-era defence deals. Despite Pakistan’s growing dependence on China in recent years, European-origin platforms remain deeply embedded in its military structure.
