“CHULLPAS” The myth of the ‘cch’amaqa pacha’ tells of the ancestors traversing the subterranean space to emerge into the light through their respective points of origin. The Andean view of historical time and cosmological space affirms the existence of the ‘manqa pacha’, the subterranean world of the ancestors; it is the place of the ‘chullpas’ or the ‘cch’amaq pacha’, a time before sunrise. On the other hand, the ‘Alax pacha’, populated by forces of light such as the sun or lightning, is the world of colors and ethnic differentiations, of day and light, of clear contrasts and of the present.
