CÓLICA EM EQUINOS - PARTE 3 | Afecções Cirúrgicas do Intestino Grosso | RK VET

We've reached the third part of our series on Colic Syndrome in Horses! In this lesson, you'll learn about the main surgical conditions of the large intestine, responsible for a large proportion of colic cases in horses. We'll cover everything from impactions and displacements to the most severe torsions, as well as the clinical differences between lesions of the small and large intestines. In this video you will learn: ✅ The golden rule of large intestine conditions and why, in most cases, there is no nasogastric reflux; ✅ Cecal impaction: causes, diagnosis, and clinical and surgical treatment; ✅ Cecal and cecocolic intussusception associated with Anoplocephala perfoliata; ✅ Impaction of the large colon, especially at the pelvic flexure; ✅ How sand ingestion and Amitraz poisoning can trigger severe colic; ✅ Volvulus of the large colon: pathophysiology, clinical signs, and emergency surgical approach; ✅ Dorsal displacement of the colon (nephrosplenic incarceration) and the use of phenylephrine in clinical treatment; ✅ Main risks of phenylephrine use in older horses; ✅ Small colon disorders, including fecalomas, enteroliths, bezoars, and meconium retention in foals; ✅ Practical summary to differentiate the main lesions of the small intestine, cecum, large colon, and small colon during clinical care. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize the main mechanisms of large bowel colic, interpret the most important clinical signs, and understand when clinical treatment is sufficient and when surgery becomes indispensable. 📚 This content was developed for Veterinary Medicine students, residents, and veterinarians who wish to deepen their knowledge in equine clinical practice and surgery. 👍 Did you enjoy the lesson?
