Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who embodied both the wildness and tranquility of the sea. Having to wage war against the Japanese forces for a long period of seven years, he led the long war to victory and defended the seas through brilliant strategies and the support of the common people. From Yeosu and Haenam, where the Jeolla Left and Right Naval Commands were located, to Jindo and Tongyeong, where the Battles of Myeongnyang and Hansan were achieved, and even to Namhae, the site of the Battle of Noryang where he breathed his last. In July, we visit Yi Sun-sin's seas. Part 1. The Victorious Sea of Uldolmok. Yi Sun-sin, who defeated 133 Japanese ships with only 13 ships. The Battle of Myeongnyang took place in 1597 at Uldolmok, a raging strait with a current speed of 24 kilometers per hour. In 2013, Park Dong-hyeok, a resident of Munnae-myeon, Haenam, risked danger to catch a mullet with a net as it swept up the rough currents of Uldolmok. Mullet, which Admiral Yi Sun-sin and his navy once caught as aquaculture during the war, remains a prized seafood to the local residents to this day. Since last year, the National Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage has been conducting underwater artifact excavation work in the waters off Jindo. Last year, they even unearthed a Sososeungja Chongtong, believed to have been used during the Imjin War. The excavation team searches the waterways near Uldolmok every day to find precious artifacts buried deep beneath the sea. Uldolmok is imbued with the spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who defended the sea with a desperate resolve, proclaiming, "He who is willing to die lives, and he who is willing to live dies." We are heading there. ✔ Program Title: Journey to Korea - Yi Sun-sin's Sea Part 1: Uldolmok, the Sea of Victory; Part 4: Hansando, the Island Where Even Time Rests ✔ Broadcast Dates: July 15-18, 2023 #GolaDuneDocumentary #Documentary #Documentary #BattleOfTheNation #BattleOfHansando
