Volkswagen ID.Unyx real world test drive and review
Having now driven over a dozen Chinese electric vehicles, I feel like I kind of know where the value lies and have lower expectations about the ability for Western brands. To produce a competitive electric vehicle in the Chinese space. Enter the Volkswagen ID Unix. It's been on the market since 2024 and definitely done in conjunction with one of the big Chinese vehicle manufacturers but produced under the Volkswagen brand. It has to meet certain minimum expectations for the international brand. We also have an expectation with the Volkswagen that the price will actually be European, and not Mercedes expensive but not Opel cheap. At the same time I've been happy to hire Tesla's and the likes of the Zeekr 001 because I get the functionality level and reasonable amount of luxury. That's kind of my minimum stand. When you can hire a Chinese electric vehicle for about $20 a day, you actually have to set your expectations really really low. You can park your ass in electric vehicle so cheaply but don't expect anything but the standard cruise control, inefficient drivetrains and the likes of petrol cared it up as an EV. That's where the ID.Unyx is great. It's loaded with functionality, including reasonably good self-driving, Heads up display, all around cameras, seat massages and much more. There were some other things about this vehicle that really stood out when I compared it to Tesla and the like. This vehicles somewhat narrower than the big vehicles and in China that really matters. You can squeeze between those scooters that have been parked at the verge for deep leaving nothing but a blocked artery for a single Lane of skinny vehicles. It's got a tight tight turning circle as well. Again, that is essential in China where there's never quite enough space to get around, but you make it work anyway. Excellent ground clearance allowed me to jump the occasional kerb which I would not dare do in a Tesla 3 or Y, Or more expensive road hugging EV. The list goes on and on but few people are ever going to read this. So that sum up and say if I was to buy an EV in China tomorrow that had to last me 3 to 5 years I would actually buy the Volkswagen ID.Unyx. #Volkswagen #id.unyx
