Aquí la gente VIVE SOBRE EL AGUA
On the island of Chiloé lies one of the most magical places in all of Chile. People there decided to build their homes over the sea, lacking land to build on and the money to rent. They resorted to fishing for driftwood and constructing their dwellings on the water in southern Chile. These homes are known to this day as "palafitos" (stilt houses). Many were destroyed by the tsunami caused by the 1960 Valdivia earthquake, but they were rebuilt and are now the main attraction of the magical island of Chiloé.
