GARGANTA DO CÉU E PEDRA DA GÁVEA + P4 | Rio de Janeiro - como chegar

The famous Garganta do Céu Trail is a viewpoint located between Pedra da Gávea and Pico dos Quatro, offering a beautiful view of São Conrado Beach and Morro Dois Irmãos in the background, as well as views of Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, Sugarloaf Mountain, Pedra do Arpoador, and other interesting points of Rio de Janeiro, and even the cities of Niterói and Maricá. The trail is steep and tiring, but does not require climbing equipment to reach the viewpoint. No safety equipment is necessary to reach Garganta do Céu. However, good physical preparation and attention are important, as the hike takes approximately 2 hours. So far, we are only discussing access and difficulty level, as it is not a marked trail like the traditional Pedra da Gávea trail. HOW TO GET THERE • By metro, get off at the final station in Jardim Oceânico, Barra da Tijuca. From there, you can walk or take a ride-sharing service to the trailhead. • By car, you have to take the Joatinga road and, shortly after, pass through Professor Velho da Silva square, then turn onto Estrada Sorimã and go to the parking lot where the trailhead is located. The entrance to the Garganta do Céu trail is the same as the Pedra da Gávea trail (which passes through Carrasqueira), but it splits right at the beginning. It is located between the Barrinha and São Conrado neighborhoods. A good landmark to meet beforehand is Oswaldo's Bar. DIFFERENT TYPES Pico dos 4 and Pedra da Gávea are different mountains, although they are adjacent. However, many people mistakenly think that everything is Pedra da Gávea. It is possible to easily cross from one mountain to the other using the path called "via P 4". This trail has become very famous because of the Garganta do Céu viewpoint, which is sensational. Pedra da Gávea itself is the classic "square" mountain seen from the South Zone or the West Zone. Access is via Carrasqueira, which is the traditional route and also has a very high accident rate. Pico dos 4 is actually the mountain adjacent to Gávea. Access is via Barrinha, crossing the stream at the beginning of the trail.
