From casino worker to fugitive money lord… This video tells one of Turkey's most shocking crime stories: Fedlan Kılıçaslan. How was it that this man, denounced by the state as "Turkey's largest betting and money laundering gang," was released so soon after his arrest? And how is it that he hasn't been found yet? Fedlan Kılıçaslan's story is the story of how an ordinary life transformed into a dark empire. Born in Balıkesir in the 1980s, Kılıçaslan moved to Northern Cyprus at a young age. His life as a casino worker was soon overshadowed by theft and imprisonment. But he didn't return after completing his sentence—on the contrary, he entered the world of illegal betting. He made his first big splash in 2016 with the website he founded, meritroyal1.bet. However, this site was the subject of a lawsuit for using the Merit Hotels brand, one of Northern Cyprus's largest hotel chains, without permission. The court found Kılıçaslan guilty, but he had already begun opening new sites: Betexpress1, MeritKing, UzmanFX… They were all part of an illegal betting network. Money from these sites was transported to Turkey in suitcases and laundered through Gold Money Jewellery in Balıkesir. He was establishing jewelry companies while also winning municipal tenders. In 2022, one of the Balıkesir Municipality's most valuable plots of land was sold to Kılıçaslan's company for 52 million TL. The tender was held with a single bidder. At the time, the public question resonated: "Is money laundering in the tenders of the AKP-run municipality?" But this was only the beginning. That same year, he became a sponsor of Balıkesirspor. The club, launching with the slogan "From Darkness to Light," included the name of Fedlan Kılıçaslan's company on its jerseys. Now everyone knew him as a "successful businessman." Yet behind the scenes, there were networks of dirty money, illegal betting, and international transfers. Kılıçaslan's activities abroad were also growing. The company he founded in Ukraine, LLC Uzman Trading, was the epicenter of the betting network. In 2021, Ukrainian police raided the site; 36 computers were seized, and employees were detained. The seized documents revealed millions of lira in betting revenue diverted from Turkey. A video leaked to social media later escalated the scandal: Ukrainian police interrogated Kılıçaslan while he was half-naked. The person who shared this video was Murat Tibuk, the heir to Net Holding. This was because Kılıçaslan had been using the Merit brand on illegal betting sites for years. The tension between the two sides had now reached an international level. But the biggest scandal was yet to come. In 2024, Galatasaray signed a sponsorship agreement with Kılıçaslan's company. The club's jersey featured the "MeritKing.News" logo. This brand, ostensibly a news website, was actually an extension of the MeritKing betting network. The contract was worth $14 million. When the scandal broke, Galatasaray management backed down and canceled the contract. However, this incident revealed that the money laundering network extended into the sports world. Then came a major operation. The Ministry of Interior launched Operation "Sibergöz-8." Kılıçaslan and his wife were detained, arrested, and reportedly identified in the news as "leaders of the organization." But he was released shortly thereafter. The man, whom the state claimed to have "caught," quietly disappeared. In the summer of 2024, his wife filed for divorce. The court tried to send notice to Fedlan Kılıçaslan, but his address could not be found. The warning was issued via a newspaper advertisement. This summed it all up: The man once personally targeted by the state was now officially a fugitive. Today, he continues to open new betting sites based in Poland. As each site is shut down, a new one is born. His story proves that crime knows no borders and that money can open every door.
