Avro Lancaster – Emergency Procedures
Here, we look at the Emergency Procedures that would be carried out by Avro Lancaster Bomber crews. We cover engine failure of one or two engines, feathering the propeller, Damage by enemy action, Undercarriage and Flap Emergency operations, Bomb Door lowering in an emergency, Bomb and Fuel Jettisoning, Parachute and Crash Exits. Also, the Dinghy and ditching the Lancaster, fire extinguisher use both for engines and by hand. We also look at the Signal flare pistol and cartridges, parachutes, Emergency packs, Kite, Crash axes and first-aid equipment stowage. There’s a lot to cover, and we shall refer to extracts from the 1943 Air Ministry manuals, to give you an idea what bomber crews had to do in an emergency situation. So join us, as we embark on a journey aimed at promoting UK Aviation Heritage.
