Play in the steering universal joints; 4. Play in the tie rod ball joints; 5. Play in the rubber bushings (silent blocks) of the front suspension (torque rods, Panhard rods, stabilizer); 6. Wheel bearings; 7. Incorrect steering knuckle resistance adjustment. At the very beginning, in May 2018, the shimmy was very noticeable at speeds of 70-75 km/h. I immediately had the car balanced and moved the better pair of wheels to the front. The shimmy intensity significantly decreased; it's now drivable, but it's best to avoid driving on the highway. Only in July did I get more involved. The left wheel was loose. Disassembling the hub revealed a dead wheel bearing. After replacing it, it improved slightly, but the shimmy was still there. As always, we replaced it with SNR R180.01. Further research revealed: 1. Broken damper bushing 2. Broken lower steering knuckle joint We replaced the bushing immediately, but there was no clear benefit from the replacement. While the new joint is running, we checked the steering knuckle resistance. This is the most accessible procedure and is recommended by many drive2 members. There are many materials on this topic online. An autopsy revealed that the steering knuckle bearing preload was significantly weakened. The bearings need to be replaced, but for now, I need to drive it somehow. The original is worth the money. This is about the Kit-swivel pin-upper TAR100050 TAR100040 We're removing one thin washer at a time. The right one is almost correct, the left one is too tight, but one thick washer remains. Without it, it's too tight. I'm leaving it as is. The result is pleasing!!! The shimmy is gone. This isn't entirely true, of course; there's still some unpleasantness at 70-75 km/h, especially when decelerating. But the shimmy, along with the resonance and thumping in the steering wheel, has temporarily gone away. The Panhard bushings are still a question mark. Further developments on this topic are postponed until winter. For now, I can drive it as is. A good solution for long-distance travel is to switch from heavily worn MT tires to fresh AT tires.
