Şükrü Kaya, one of the five most important figures in Atatürk-era Turkey, lived through many significant events. He served as Minister of the Interior continuously during the implementation of the Nation-State Model, becoming, so to speak, Atatürk's right-hand man. His relationship with İsmet İnönü, the second most powerful man of the time, deteriorated from the 1930s onwards, and after Atatürk's illness, he was sidelined by İnönü on November 11, 1938, for taking a stance against İnönü during the process of selecting a new president.
