UK records hottest June day ever as rare red warning issued
Wednesday is the UK's hottest June day on record, with a provisional temperature of 36.1C in Gosport, Hampshire. That temperature surpasses several records set earlier in the day, all of which beat the previous high of 35.6C recorded in 1976 and 1957, the Met Office said. It is likely the record will be beaten again, by the end of the week with temperatures of up to 40C possible in some areas on Thursday, as a "heat-dome" over western Europe has brought extreme conditions across the continent.
