Rebuilding Kozarac | Documentary

A 7 minute documentary that aims to tell the stories of the people of Kozarac who have not before had a voice. 25 years ago, in the municipality of Prijedor, Serb forces ‘ethnically cleansed’ the town of Kozarac, destroying all Bosniak houses, leaving just the Serb buildings standing. Men, women and children who were either Bosniak or Croat were sent to concentration camps where many were killed, tortured or raped. The town was left in rubble, whilst many of those who survived fled to neighbouring European countries to seek refuge as the Bosnian war finished. Now, 25 years on, the town has rebuilt itself to become one of the more successful of the towns who were heavily inflicted in this mass genocide. Locals return every summer, but during the off-season times, only the real locals reside. In November, I travelled to Bosnia to visit Kozarac, and meet these incredible people to hear their story on how they managed to rebuild this charming community and most importantly their home. Rebuilding Kozarac focuses on the aftermath of the war, with small anecdotes throughout – hopefully, this will provide a light to those whose success stories haven’t been told.
