Is the novel free of ideology? And should it be? It seems that any cultural product that exposes or denounces injustice is doomed to be a woke, self-righteous piece of trash, one that disregards the universal principles of the novel: that it not cause problems, that it entertains, that its greatest challenge is the linguistic problem. However, great novels, even classic ones, have been, due to their honesty, political: Don Quixote and the tragicomedy of life; Anna Karenina and the lock of marriage; or Crime and Punishment and the destruction of morality with the loss of God. In this video, we'll talk about contemporary novels and films that, beneath the guise of entertainment, have hidden ideologies—sometimes perverse, sometimes contemporary. Wall Street, The Turner Diaries, and The Protocols of the Elders of Zion are creations that have glorified different ideas throughout history. And our novels? Should they be free of all kinds of ideology? Or is that precisely the prevailing ideology today? A deactivated culture, one that doesn't move, that doesn't bother, that looks good in any case.
