He studied piano with Karel Hoffmeister and composition with Otakar Šín and Vítězslav Novák in Prague. Later he studied piano and composition with Albert Roussel at the École normal de musique in Paris. Thanks to the consultations with Roussel, Páleníček discovered the Paris Six. Influenced by these compositional techniques, Páleníček composed first in a romantic neo-baroque style, then later turned to a more simple neo-classical style.
