As you make your way south from Anchorage, you will pass the opportunity to take the Longest Highway Tunnel in the United States to a small town called Whittier. They call this town, "The town under one roof" because most of it's residents live in the same building, the Begich Towers. There is hiking, fishing and a ton of tours going out of this town so we recommend you don't miss it. On you way to this historic, little town make sure to stop by Girdwood for the great food, hiking and outdoor recreation too. Girdwood is a top tier ski destination in the winter and has a ton of hiking and mountain biking in the summer. The Bake Shop has great food there too and you won't want to miss it.
