This leg of our journey on our bicycles is characterized by the vast expanses of the Highveld, an extensive, high-altitude grassland plateau in the interior of South Africa, and will take us to the Kalahari at the end of this video. We're cycling on the N14, National Route 14. This is a South African national highway that runs from Springbok in the northwest of the country to Pretoria. We start in Koster in the North West Province and end up in Kathu in the Northern Cape Province. We cycle through immense fields of maize and wheat, and pass through several mining towns. Near Kathu is one of the world's largest open-pit iron ore mines. We receive a lot of help from farmers, meet some wonderful people, and enjoy being back on our bikes. Towards the end, the question of how to continue our journey increasingly arises, as it is summer. And ahead of us lie vast desert regions...
