Surah Al-Hijr (سورة الحجر) means "The Rocky Land" or "The Land of Stones". It is the 15th Surah of the Holy Quran. This Surah narrates the history and fate of the Thamud people who lived in a place called 'Hijr', who used to cut down mountains and build houses. The famous verse 9 of this Surah guarantees the preservation of the Quran.
