¿Cómo se hacen las piñatas en Acolman?
Acolman, in the State of Mexico, is recognized as the birthplace of Mexican piñatas, with a craft tradition that dates back at least 400 years. Traditional piñatas, especially the seven-pointed star representing the seven deadly sins, are made from cardboard, tissue paper, and paste, and are used for festivities such as Christmas, the Day of the Dead, and weddings. This craft is not only a festive symbol but also a source of livelihood for many families in the municipality who produce thousands of piñatas each year, keeping alive an ancient tradition born in the former convent of San Agustín, where the first Christmas Eve masses related to the piñata were also celebrated. The former convent of San Agustín in Acolman is an architectural gem from the Viceroyalty, with a combination of Gothic, Renaissance, Plateresque, and Indigenous styles. It is known for its extraordinary grisaille murals on its walls, which serve as a visual catechesis. This convent was not only a center of evangelization but now also functions as a museum that preserves sacred art, mural paintings from the 16th to the 18th centuries, and other cultural artifacts from viceregal Mexico. The convent's restoration has allowed it to become a cultural gathering place with exhibitions, recitals, and activities, celebrating its nearly five-century history. 📚Chapters 📒 00:56 History of the former convent of Acolman 02:55 History of piñatas in Mexico 04:22 The making of traditional piñatas 08:38 Techniques for making piñatas 17:37 Muralism in Acolman 20:59 Director of the cultural center 22:41 Folk art: Giant cardboard figures 23:17 Acolman is much more than its convent 🔔 Subscribe to the channel: / @tutvcultural 🎥 A production of @evisuales 2025 📺 Support independent TV by subscribing to the @Tutvcultural channel 🎬 Production by Jorge Barbosa 🎶 Music by Fifty Sounds Work: Random Sequences Work: Obsolete Time Music by https://www.fiftysounds.com/es/
