Hypoestes | House set @ The Loft Cape Town | September 2025

On the 23rd of September 2025, we welcomed Hypoestes, a writer and DJ who views music as a function for healing through movement. Her use of house and techno music unpacks the roots of these genres from the 1980’s, providing a platform for engaging conversations surrounding marginalisation and inequalities within the electronic dance music scene. These conversations extend to the dance floor, using dominant percussive elements found in many Nguni and bantu cultures. Hypoestes has performed both locally and internationally, curating sets for the Search Festival, Smalltown Beat, and spreading her wings at the Whole Festival in Berlin and Rádio Na Manteiga in São Paulo. Music is at the heart of her story telling, where sonic reflections capture what words cannot. Let's relive her heartfelt set, captured by Zoey Black.
