Theory of argumentation is a philosophical school that primarily studies the form of arguments, what should count as an argument, the relationship between argument form and content, and rationalization used as argument. The field of argumentation is often taken to include debate, persuasion, conversation, dialogue and even propaganda as forms of argument. It emphasizes a specialized conception of logical reasoning seen from the perspective of premises and conclusions. Though it is only a very narrow part of critical thinking, argumentation is frequently taken to be critical thinking.
