Did you know that beneath Santiago's Plaza de Armas lie not only colonial foundations, but also vestiges of an Inca urban center? When Pedro de Valdivia arrived in the Mapocho Valley in 1541, he didn't found a city in empty territory: he found a fully functioning Inca province, with roads, irrigation canals, authorities, and a history that dates back to the Aconcagua culture. We spoke with archaeologist Rubén Stehberg, author of "Mapocho Incaico" (published by @planetadelibros).
