Classic TV Theme: Mannix (Lalo Schifrin)

'Mannix' ran for eight seasons, and it might have run for more if CBS hadn't cancelled it when ABC started running reruns in the late night slot. Unfortunately nobody ran this past CBS and they were displeased. Most people don't realize that the show's original premise was Mannix vs the Computer. He worked for an agency that used computers to catch crooks, but Mannix preferred old-fashioned shoe leather. That gimmick was left behind and starting in season two he was a rough-and-tumble private eye operating his own agency out of his house, with a sharp, pretty secretary to save his butt when needed. That first season has not been aired since the original run; same with the last season. So we've included both of those, titles and credits, plus a couple opens from the intervening seasons to show how Lalo Schifrin's jazzy, whirlwind waltz theme subtly changed now and then. Next on CBS...'Mannix'!
