Growing Matilija poppies successfully for years in San Diego
We love these beautiful Matilija poppies, Romneya coulteri blooming in our yard during the warm sunny days in San Diego. They are over 10’ tall and as we said they have not been cut back in the winter as some people do. If you plant these, it’s cannot be near the lawn that gets weekly water, it will take over! You’ll get shoots coming up every where! They do best in a dry summer climate where you don’t water. If they begin die back and go dormant and you want them to keep growing then give them a bit of weekly water. We have been growing them successfully for several years now, so are excited to share with you how what we know. Check our “Poppies” playlist for more videos. Remember to check Calscape.org to get more details.
