Happy Birthday to the Beloved Guru - Paramahansa Yogananda Jan 5th 2025. Every time I listen to one of the Cosmic Chants, I always wonder how a simple tune with a simple prayer can have such an impact on the soul. Paramahansa Yogananda always spoke about the joy of collective prayer and spiritualized music. He says in the preface to the book 'Cosmic Chants' written in the 1930's - 'spiritualized' chants help to quiet and focus the mind in preparation for meditation. Popular songs are usually inspired through sentiment or passing interests. But a song born out of the depths of true devotion to God and continuously chanted, audibly or mentally, until response is consciously received from Him in the form of boundless joy, is a spiritualized song. This time, I picked yet another one of my favorites (originally written by Guru Nanak Dev and very often sung by Paramahansa Yogananda as part of his Cosmic Chants - He called it O God Beautiful) This is a dedication to the Guru on His birthday this year.
