Kia Rio; Family Car; Economical; Value for Money: New Kia Rio Review & Road Test

The Kia Rio is one of the biggest-selling global models from the world’s third-largest car-making group. Over the past couple of generations, the Kia Rio has started to feel more and more like a small car tailored to European tastes and this fourth generation will definitely further the trend. This recently face lifted version was designed by two teams working at Kia’s design centre in Germany and North America, both tasked with the idea of making it look more cleanly and sharply cut. Subsequently a more streamlined 'tiger nose' front grille and bumpers are among the features on this latest version. Aesthetics are not the only changes, under the bonnet the car gets a choice of a pair of new 1.0-litre turbocharged three cylinder petrol engines with either 99bhp or 118bhp (the latter being available for the first time as a 48-volt mild hybrid), and a cheaper 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with 83bhp. Inside the new Rio there’s a more ergonomic feel and a much greater focus on connectivity, with Kia's very latest infotainment system now added to the car. The Kia Rio has matured very impressively since the first, rather basic, budget-focused version arrived over a decade ago. Its still good value for money and definitely a main contender in the hard-fought supermini class.
