I Made a Chess Engine in Excel... Can It Beat Me?

Can Microsoft Excel play chess? In this video, I attempt to build a fully functional chess engine entirely inside Microsoft Excel using VBA. What started as a ridiculous programming challenge quickly turned into one of the most interesting coding projects I've ever attempted. To make Excel play chess, I had to implement: • Legal move generation • Board evaluation • Minimax search function • Alpha-beta pruning • Check, checkmate, castling, promotion, and en passant The goal was to create a chess engine in Excel strong enough to beat me in a real game. After countless crashes and bug fixing, the spreadsheet finally learned how to play chess, but can it actually win a game? Watch until the end to see whether I get checkmated by a spreadsheet. If you enjoy programming challenges, game development, or coding experiments, you're in the right place. ⏱️ Timestamps 0:00 - Intro 0:35 - The Challenge 1:09 - Setting up the Chess Board 1:27 - Teaching Excel Chess 2:58 - Teaching Excel to Think 4:58 - Making it Playable 6:00 - Can It Beat Me?
