The Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Elestianto Dardak, went directly to the field to resolve the blockade of the Pacitan-Ponorogo Provincial Road in Gamping Hamlet, Ngreco Village, Tegalombo District, Pacitan on Tuesday (May 19, 2026). The roadblock, using drums and banners, was triggered by local residents demanding compensation for land for a 1.8-kilometer road widening project that has remained unfinished since 2013. The incident began when Emil Dardak, who was passing by, was surprised to see the road narrowed by the barricade. The former Regent of Trenggalek immediately moved quickly to coordinate with the Pacitan Police, the National Land Agency (BPN), and the Provincial Public Works Agency to gather valid data. Emil then discussed with community representatives and their legal counsel to persuade the community to move the roadblock for the safety of all. The East Java Provincial Government is committed to overseeing this land dispute transparently and objectively. Emil emphasized that a thorough review of official documents would be conducted, and the government is ready to prioritize protecting community rights if any obligations are found to have been unfulfilled over the past 13 years. Through a conducive mediation process, residents finally agreed to gradually reopen road access.
